A Professional Organisation is looking to add a Policy Officer to their Dublin team. Policy development, produce policy communications, support campaigns, provide guidance and represent the Organisation on relevant committees. Key Responibilities:

  • In conjunction with other advisory groups, develop specific, clear,practical policy proposals for presentation to Government and other policy makers
  • Produce well-written policy submissions, responses to consultations, position papers, letters and other communications in support of Organisation’s policy objectives
  • Conduct advocacy and campaigning on issues related to the Organisation’s strategic priority areas
  • Co-ordinate research activities, including conducting and commissioning original research, such as surveys and polls
  • Sourcing data, providing research papers and briefings on issues related to policy.
  • Organise and host webinars, roundtables and other policy and practice related events
  • Form alliances with policy/practice/research functions in stakeholder organisations for mutual benefit
  • Liaise and maintain regular contact with government officials, politicians and policy makers on key policy issues
  • Grow and maintain the Organisation’s credibility and reputation with key external influencers through representation, where appropriate, at policy making fora, conferences and in the media
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and practices so as to be in a position to provide background analysis and summaries of areas of concern

Requirements:

* Third Level qualification in science, technology, engineering or mathematics

* Postgraduate qualification including research/policy methodology is desirable

* Minimum of 3 years’ work experience in public policy or research

* Knowledge of Government, public policy and legislation

* Excellent verbal and written communication including the ability to represent and speak on occasions on behalf of the organisation

* Experience of producing high quality and accessible documents to publication standard

* Sound analytical and problem-solving skills

* Proven ability to manage a complex project across a diverse organisation

* Able to identify and plan key areas of work, to establish priorities and manage a complex workload in order to meet tight deadlines

* Strong stakeholder skills, with the ability to build relationships with volunteers, staff and key external influencers

* Skilled in supporting the work of the team, by coordinating the work of others and sharing expertise

* Ability to work independently & with considerable discretion but to seek advice as required.
